Summer Blog
Summer 2016 was one I will always remember and cherish. I had the opportunity to backpack Europe for the month of July. In the 30 days I was there, I was able to explore nine different countries.
Seven months of extensive planning and research all became my reality when I landed in France. As the days flew by, I found myself getting lost in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, England, Czech Republic, Belgium, and Denmark. Whenever I stepped off the plane or train in each country, I felt like I was submerged in a new culture. Each country had its own characteristics and unique charm that stood out to me.
Backpacking twenty miles in one day, sleeping in a hammock in a shed, sharing hostel bathrooms with strangers, and missing busses & trains were the highlights of my trip. Totally kidding, but all of these challenges made me a better person in the end. It was worth seeing all the beautiful places and most importantly all of the friendships I have made.
Having no tour guide or help in these foreign areas was pretty nerve-racking but it forced me to grow in a lot of ways I did not know was possible.
Reflecting on my trip, I realize that traveling has impacted my perspective of the world. Meeting different people from across Europe made me realize that even though we all live different lives and may not speak the same language, we can always relate to one another through kindness. Traveling may be intimidating but it is also liberating and enlightening. It is throwing your self into the unexpected and coming out with knowledge and memories that will last a lifetime.
