My Summer Experience
Hello everybody! I hope everyone was able to enjoy these summer months that have just passed. This summer has been extremely busy for me but I am grateful to have spent this season with loved ones while accomplishing some personal goals as well.
In the beginning of the year I made a promise to myself to travel often and push myself to see different aspects of the world. This summer was spent doing exactly that. I had the opportunity to backpack in Big Sur, CA. The seven hour drive consisted of endless laughter with friends, beautiful ocean views and even included seeing one of the few waterfalls in the world that rush down directly into the ocean. Along with the views, came the challenging yet thrilling adventure of backpacking down to Sykes Hot Springs. Carrying a forty pound backpack ten miles, surrounding by bugs and eating Cup O Noodles all weekend is not everyone’s ideal vacation but I would have not done it any other way. During this hike I was faced with doubt and uncertainty. From pouring rain, bee strings, and itchy plants I am happy to say I made it thru. The calming sound of the streams and whispers of the trees made it all worthwhile. The sense of accomplishment also made all of these challenges dissolve. Spending a weekend amongst rivers, stunning sites, and vast forests certainly helped recharge the batteries, but I am happy to be back to civilization.
This trip will resonate with me as I start at Cal State Fullerton for the first time this fall semester. I am excited for the challenges and new experiences I will face at my new school and will remember that no obstacle is too big if I put my all into it. As the hot summer days end and the transition to autumn begins, I am looking forward to an eventful fall season.
