Summer Blog
It has always been an item on my bucket list to volunteer abroad. This summer I taught English in Ubud, Bali. Ubud is a magical city filled with fascinating culture and friendly hearts. I was placed in a classroom with about 15 students whose ages ranged from 7-9 years old. The first day I had the initial nerves and millions of questions ran through my mind: Will my teaching for two weeks make an impact? What if I can’t communicate with the students? Will the lessons I planned make sense? Will they even like me?
However, after the first couple of minutes of meeting the children everything changed. Their happiness, excitement, and eager attitude towards learning dissolved all of the doubts and questions I previously had.
I will admit that international projects are not glamorous or easy by any means, but they are challenging in ways that will expand your impact on different communities and influence your mind and heart in a positive progression. Being able to share their moments of joy and progress are memories that I always carry in my heart. Thank you Bali for all of the humbling and incredible memories!
